Kennel Registration with the McNab Shepherd Registry is subject to DNA conformation and Board approval. Additionally, a kennel can not be registered without a paid active membership. Links to the forms for both kennel registration and membership are at the bottom of this page.
Applicants for kennel registration must agree to:
- Register their litters with MSR and submit paperwork to the MSR for each puppy sold.
- Include their kennel’s name printed on all puppy applications given to new owners.
- Inform all new puppy owners of any limitations the kennel places on puppies at the time of sale and properly mark all papers.
It is the position of the McNab Shepherd Registry Board of Directors that NO dog produced from a “inbred mating”, i.e. brother/sister, father/daughter, mother/son will be registrable.
While viable and healthy genetics are the primary concern of the MSR for the conservation and preservation of the McNab breed of dogs, the registry knows that will require many different breeding strategies, linebreeding, linecrossing, outcrossing and inbreeding.
The conservation/preservation of this wonderful dog will take a combined and informed effort to maintain several lines that will useable into the future. It is the hope of the registry that breeders will make educated decisions regarding the genetics and the long term affects of poor choices and the impact those choices will have on the McNab into the future.
The McNab Shepherd has remained much unchanged due to the fact it was not widely known, owned or bred by anyone other than the farmers and ranchers using them. It is the goal of the registry to see that to some degree we maintain that and not breed this dog into extinction.
